“Have a safe flight”

Meet the Super Scared Airplane Passenger pictured above. This terrified lady was on one of our flights to New York City this week and it got me thinking about how similar the Super Scared Airplane Passenger is to the Super Scared Affiliate.

Anyone that reads this blog knows I like to talk a lot about the Super Scared Affiliate because I myself am a recovering Super Scared Affiliate. In the picture above you can see this lady is very apprehensive about flying and is doing all she can to “hold on” for dear life. Newsflash to her (and anyone else scared of flying) – there is nothing she can do. As a passenger on an airplane you are 100% powerless when it comes to whether or not the airplane will land safely; like it or not you are placing all of your confidence in the pilots to get you where you need to go. You can grab on with both hands, close your eyes and clinch to the seat as hard as you want but there is nothing you can do.

Being overly apprehensive about a particular Affiliate Marketing campaign is just as pointless. Now I’m not saying you are 100% powerless when it comes to running your campaigns but there is a point where you have to place your confidence in your research and trust your ability to create a profitable campaign.

After you’ve done your testing and are ready to “open up the gates” on a particular campaign, you must let it run. If you are terrified about losing money, the campaign is never going to get a chance to become profitable. There are going to be times where a campaign is going to lose steam and need to be tweaked but when starting a campaign – do not be afraid of it. Trust your research and understand how pointless it is to worry about it. Like it or not, you are powerless.

Ryan and I were leaving Chili’s in the Charlotte/Douglas International Airport last night when the people we had been talking too told us to “have a safe flight”. Obviously it’s not up to us to “have a safe flight” but it wouldn’t have made sense to say “tell the pilots to fly safe.” So “have a safe flight” and give your campaigns a chance. I know it’s tough when you think things might be going south but let it run and make your adjustments after things have been given a chance.

Screw it, this is never going to work!

There’s been a lot of written content added to the blog today so I thought I would continue my series entitled Confessions of a Super Scared Affiliate in my first ever audio blog. In my first installment of this series I gave one mistake and how I overcame it. Today I give four more mistakes and how I overcame them.

Confessions Of A Super Scared Affiliate (Part 1)

I have a confession to make to everyone today – I used to be a super scared affiliate. You read that right; one of the Super Affiliate Twins was at one time a super scared affiliate. A super scared affiliate is someone too nervous to let a campaign run and pulls it before it has a chance of being successful. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve used R rated language at Ryan, telling him “this was never going to work” and he was “out of his mind for trying.” Boy did he make me look like an incompetent jerk.

I didn’t believe in Internet marketing because I didn’t understand why you had to spend money to make money. You’ve probably heard someone use that expression before, but it’s usually an excuse for a failed investment or a poor business decision. In Internet marketing the adage is very true. Despite being true it is hard to explain to any rational thinking individual why you have to spend so much money. Internet marketing is high risk, high reward. Without taking the risk, there is no reward. Nonetheless it is still extremely difficult to justify spending money before you make money.

I, like everyone else, hate to lose money. I understand the value of the dollar and how hard it is to make a living. It is emotionally draining for me to be down any amount what-so-ever. Since I have “been there before” and still find myself teetering into “super scared” mode I thought I would start a series of blogs where I give a mistake and how I got over it. Below is my first tip:

Mistake: Monitoring stats by the minute.

Every Super Affiliate I talked too before getting into Internet marketing told me not to constantly check my stats. I was far too stubborn to listen and was obsessive about refreshing my browser analyzing my losses. Luckily I escaped a heart attack but I probably took years off my life with the stress. Not to mention I used language worse than anything you could have imagined.

How I got over it: The temptation of constantly monitoring our stats is still out there, however, I know I cannot do it. I have learned there are “hot” and “cold” times of day and it depends on numerous factors on how well an offer performs. I started doing other things to occupy my time (such as blogging) and now have Ryan give me the stats the following day. Find something, anything, to do to prevent yourself from stat watching.

I hope this tip helps any super scared affiliate out there, be on the lookout for my next tip. For now I’ve got to go check our stats…
