I know a couple of weeks back we talked about moving all our stuff to RackSpace because of the guarantee they have for 100% uptime but I have to give it to HostGator for their outstanding support that they’ve shown me over the past three years. Since starting ZeroPriceTags, I’ve really had a lot of people attack me for whatever reason. From foreign scammers trying to hold my site up for E-Gold ransom to just random brute forcers, it seems like our servers never get a break.

I got a call while I was on the road from a random number that I almost decided not to answer since I feared it was an affiliate manager, heh. It turned out to be HostGator asking me if it was really me that had been threatening the lives and cursing up a storm with their support staff. Evidently this was a fairly high-up supervisor who couldn’t have been nicer but sounded a little concerned at first. She claimed she had seen nothing like it as she read off a couple of expletive-filled sentences of someone demanding my password and demanding this and that. Luckily, they are very well trained and noticed IP changes as well as suspicious grammar and nixed the problem pretty quickly.

This situation reminded me of another stellar experience I had whenever my server went down at about 2:00 AM. I had to get a reboot and it was taking a while so I called in. I had to wait on hold for 20 minutes and I was getting a little heated since I had to get up for class the next morning at 8:00. One of the supervisors over there gave me a $50 credit without me even complaining or asking for the long wait.

If it wasn’t for their support, I would have lost thousands of dollars by now thanks to DDOS attacks and hijacks. Their CISCO guard system against DDOS is really clutch and it’s surprising how many people don’t know they have it and how effective it is. If you ever are looking for a new hosting solution for your business, I could not recommend HostGator more, especially if you’ve ever had problems like I’ve had.
